Rug Care Instructions

General Care

Vacuum Regularly: Gentle vacuuming can remove dirt and dust. Use a brushless suction head to prevent fibers from pulling out.

Rotate Periodically: Rotating your rug 180 degrees every six months will ensure even wear and fade.

Spot Clean Spills Immediately: Blot spills with a clean, white cloth. Do not rub, as this can work the spill deeper into the fibers.

Professional Cleaning: Depending on traffic and use, professional cleaning is recommended every 1-2 years.

Specific Care Based on Material

Wool Rugs: Avoid exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading. Wool rugs are naturally stain-resistant but should be professionally cleaned when dirty.

Synthetic Rugs: Synthetic fiber rugs, such as nylon or polyester, are easier to clean and can often be spot-cleaned with mild detergent and water.

Cotton Rugs: Machine washable in cold water on a gentle cycle. Lay flat or hang to dry.

Silk Rugs: These require professional cleaning. Avoid water stains by keeping them in low-traffic areas.

Dealing with Stains

Liquid Spills: Blot immediately with a clean, absorbent white cloth. Press firmly all around the spill to absorb as much liquid as possible. Do not rub.

Solid or Semi-Solid Spills: Gently scrape up with a spoon or dull knife. Vacuum any dry particles. Proceed with spot cleaning if necessary.

Oil-Based Stains: May require a professional, but you can spot clean with a solution of mild detergent and water. Test any cleaners on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Preventing Damage

Use Rug Pads: Rug pads can extend the life of your rug by preventing shifting and sliding and providing a soft layer of cushioning.

Avoid Moisture: Keep rugs away from damp areas to prevent mold and mildew. Use a dehumidifier in humid climates.

Pet Care: Trim pet nails to avoid pulls and tears. Clean pet accidents immediately with a cleaner designed for pet stains.

Storage

Clean Before Storing: Ensure the rug is professionally cleaned before storage.

Roll, Don’t Fold: Rolling prevents creases and folds. Roll the rug with the pile facing in to protect the fiber tops.

Wrap for Protection: Use breathable fabric like cotton sheets or tyvek wrapping. Avoid plastic, which can trap moisture.

Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Avoid basements and attics where temperature and humidity can fluctuate.
